England V Turkey (Women’s WCQ Qualifier)

England’s Women will play Turkey’s Women in a World Cup Qualifier at Fratton Park, Portsmouth, England. Kick off at 7:05pm BST, 26th Sept 13.

England comprehensively beat Belarus 6-0 in their opening WCQ game and will look to continue that against Turkey who they see as similar opponents. Turkey have not qualified for a World Cup before but may try to cause an upset which can happen in any form of football. However, they have lost to England on two previous occasions and are currently 65th in the FIFA Women’s World rankings. But previous meetings do not decide the outcome so Turkey can look to be positive and start the game well.

England will look to avoid complacency tonight especially playing at home, in what should be a good crowd. There may be some Turkish fans who may also attend, which would be refreshing to see.

In the UK, the game will available on the BBC network with radio and TV coverage.

Enjoy!!

Result: England 8-0 Turkey

Goals scored from Duggan (3), Aluko (2), White (2), Dowie (1).
Turkey’s GK played well and was the reason England did not reach double figures.

Aaron Ramsey Fulfilling His Potential?

Aaron Ramsey has hit 7 goals for Arsenal in all competitions this season so far (as at 24th Sept 13 ). After a mixed season last year, he has hit lethal form and shown intent this season  (2013/14) by providing match of the match performances. With Arteta out injured, Ramsey has been playing in a central midfield role which has seen him flourish compared to last season where he was played out wide quite often. Already surpassing his goal tally from last season, he looks to be invigorated this season. He has only provided one assist so far (24th Sept 13 ) but his play could have resulted in more. Last season he only registered two assists which is not ideal for a talented midfielder.

At only 22, he has the time to still improve and master his game. With his ideal position in CM, he will have to be able to do the complete package in terms of defence and attack. With good vision and the ability to play a through ball, he can improve his assist tally and should hopefully be looking to provide 8/9 per season compared to his previous highest of 5. Also, he has shown on several occasions he will win the ball and reduce pressure on his back four with his good work-rate. The midfielder has produced 29 winning tackles so far this season (29th Sept 13).

His current form has shown he has the ability to be Arsenal’s first choice midfielder and become influential again for Wales also. Having lost his captaincy to Ashley Williams, this may help him concentrate on his football first than being the captain of his national team. With the burden at a young age, it may have had a determent effect on his performances. However, he still has the potential to become Wales captain again.

So after hitting this season is blistering form, is he now fulfilling his potential to become a great CM for Arsenal and Wales?

“7 – Aaron Ramsey has now scored seven goals from just eight shots on target in all competitions this season. Streak.” OptaJoe

Kaka Reported To Freeze His Wages

Kaka, who joined AC Milan on a free this summer transfer window, has requested to the Milan hierarchy that he has his wages suspended until he is fully fit and ready to play. He had played in Milan’s comeback against Torino (ended 2-2 FT)  and was substituted in the 70th minute as he had picked up a thigh injury in the game.

All Kaka requested was “I don’t want anything from Milan, except for love and support, until I’m fully fit and ready to play, For this reason I have decided to suspend my current pay for this period of time. The only thing I ask is for the support and help to recover properly.”

Having left the Rossoneri in 2009 to join Real Madrid, the former Champions League winner has been hit by injuries throughout his stint at Madrid. It continues to be the case but hopefully by being back “home”, he can get back to his best where he won several awards at Milan.

This is has been reported and not yet confirmed. However, if true, this would send a big message across the footballing continent. Rarely do we associate players with loyalty and that they only care about their wage packets. But Kaka looks to repay the Rossoneri with his performances and feels he needs to earn his wage, not just accept it.

Anti-Homophobia Campaign

Paddy Power and Stonewall Campaign

This post will contain language associated with homophobia. Please do not read if you (will/may) feel uncomfortable.

Football teams across England and Scotland have been invited to join the homophobic campaign for clubs and players to address homophobia in the game. Homophobia is; the dislike for people who have sexual feelings for the same sex gender. (Gay/Lesbian).
The Right behind Gay Footballers and charity Stonewall want players to get involved by wearing rainbow laces to show equality in football.

Stonewall deputy chief executive Laura Doughty said: “It’s time for football clubs and players to step up and make a visible stand against homophobia in our national game. By wearing rainbow laces, players will send a message of support to gay players and can begin to drag football into the 21st Century.”

There are no known homosexual footballers in the English or Scottish professional leagues as of yet. The campaign wants to raise awareness that homosexual footballers can still be allowed to play football while openly admitting they that are. They want players to be treated equally and fairly. It is also focusing on changing the attitudes toward this; so clubs, players and fans can join in to get rid of this form of discrimination. Players should be able to play football without receiving abuse from their manager, fellow players and of course supporters.

There have been sad situations where players have come out with their sexuality but then later took their life due to the amount of abuse they received shortly afterwards. All across the world, this does happen. By supporting this campaign you can help stop this from happening again.

If you don’t agree with homosexuals, then that is fair, as we are entitled to our opinions or/and beliefs. But there is no need to give those who are abuse with the form of threats and hatred. Would you treat your club’s star player the same just because they may be or are homosexual?

Food for thought.

Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Throughout the game, Southampton were the better team but struggled to score with West Ham’s Jussi Jaaskelainen in top form and making three/four great saves to deny the Saints three points.  West Ham did have one chance at the end to cause a shock when James Collins blazed over when Noble found him in space.

Bale’s Debut for Real Madrid

Missed the badge 😉 Bale celebrating his goal

It was confirmed by Mr Ancelotti before the game against Villarreal, that Bale would be making his dream debut. After his £85m move from Tottenham, he was given the chance to impress his new fans by starting on the right attacking slot for Madrid. He delivered in the the first half when he converted Carvajal’s cross by sliding in like a poacher at the far post.

He was later substituted around the hour mark, with Angel De Maria coming on in his place. Ancelotti may have done this as he may start for Real Madrid in their Champions League game against Galatasaray. It should be a great stage for him to showcase his talent at the tenacious stadium in Istanbul if he does take part.

A good start for Bale. Would have been ever sweeter if Madrid came away with the 3 points too.

Samuel Eto’o ‘s Debut for Chelsea

Samuel from his Inter days.

Samuel Eto’o will start his BPL debut against Everton.

Having played most his football in Spain, the Cameroon striker will now face the test of the Barclays Premier League.
Coming from a local youth club in Cameroon, he moved to Real Madrid’s youth academy while he was 17 years old. He was loaned to three Spanish clubs who were Leganes, Espanyol and Mallorca. He then agreed to join Mallorca permanently in the year 2000, making over 100 apperances for the Spanish club.

He then made a big move to Barcelona where we excelled and won several trophies including the UCL, La Liga and several Spanish domestic trophies.  He also previously played for Inter and Anzhi. With his stats, he has nearly managed to score a goal in every two games with many of his previous three clubs.

At the age of 32, some people believe he may be past his best. But other believe his experience and natural fitness will not be a problem when dealing with the Barclays Premier League. Having played with top European teams and having international experience, he will surely be an asset for Chelsea.  Having worked with Mourinho before, he will know what is required of him and will surely have a good relationship.

I think he will be a good buy for Chelsea and will probably be first choice for most the season if he impresses today and can settle in quick as possible. Because if he does, Chelsea can be real title contenders this season.
